Živa Drvarič: Aparthotel

05/05 – 29/05/2022

The exhibition by Živa Drvarič introduces the young artist who, despite her intensive work abroad, is still little known to the local public. Her works are convincing in their poetic minimalism and visual consideration, behind which the reflections on everyday life are revealed. The content can be understood as socio-critical, while at the same time the pictorial issues of facial expression or light source are in the foreground. It is the relationship between visual perfection and the imperfection of everyday life that creates the tension with which the artist builds the recognisability of her expression, which the exhibition presents with a selection of her latest works.

Prav razmerje med vizualno dovršenostjo in nepopolnostjo vsakdana ustvari napetost, s katero avtorica gradi prepoznavnost lastnega izraza – tega bo razstava predstavila z izborom njenih najnovejših del.

Alkatraz Gallery was founded in 1996 on the initiative of ALU students as a project to revitalise the Hlev (Barn) building in AKC Metelkova mesto. The main goals of the gallery are to present works by young or non-established artists as well as artists from the local environment of AKC Metelkova and to spark off a dialogue about the phenomena of contemporary art, culture and society in general. Preference is given to experimental works, site-specific projects with different approaches and media, and works that critically engage with contemporary times.
