The group exhibition Returning the Gaze offers a glimpse into the creative processes and practices of nearly sixty women artists, all either Slovenian or working in Slovenia, from the 1990s to the present day. With the works presented, it focuses on specific social issues, questions of identity, feminism and the representation of women artists in the art system, revealing different poetics, forms or concepts that allow a more systematic view of certain events of the past.

CALL ME

Series of portraits of younger-generation female artists Serija portretov umetnic mlajše generacije

Artists Umetnice: Helena Tahir, Maja Babič Košir, Meta Drčar, Ivana Bajec, Janja Kosi, Nevena Aleksovski, Neža Knez

03/05 – 19/06/2022

Call me is a series of portraits of younger generation women artists working in the field of the contemporary visual arts. Seven video interviews in the intimate atmosphere of art studios reveal the art practices of seven women artists working both locally and internationally. Maja Babič Košir, Nevena Aleksovski, Ivana Bajec, Neža Knez, Meta Drčar, Helena Tahir and Janja Kosi answer questions about the media in which they work, their creative approaches, motivations, the development of their practices and goals of one kind or another. The portraits, shown consecutively for one week each, will be presented in Cukrarna as part of the Returning the Gaze exhibition. The artists will also intervene in the exhibition for a week by installing a selected artwork in an ongoing dialogue.

03/03 – 29/05/2022

Maruša Sagadin finished her studies of Architecture in Graz and then Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where she is still based. Her solo exhibition at the Parterre Gallery is the first in a series of events taking a “One Space – One Artist – One Project” approach. Intriguingly titled Wet Feet, it showcases her recent works, carefully thought-out compositional wholes forming a metaphorical reflection on urban spaces intended as places for public gathering.

Na razstavi s pomenljivim naslovom Mokre noge so predstavljena njena novejša dela oziroma premišljene kompozicijske celote, metaforično povezane z razmislekom o izbranih segmentih urbanih površin, namenjenih javnemu zbiranju.

OPENING HOURS:
Tuesday – Sunday, 10 – 7PM

With Cukrarna, the Slovenian capital gained an important new venue for the presentation of contemporary art, and thus spaces where the processes of articulating thought, production and presentation of contemporary art projects – visual, intermedia, performative, sound, music and other art forms – take place. The presentation of artworks through exhibitions and events is only one part of the institution's programme; Cukrarna's goal is to become a new hub for cultural events on a broader scale.
