Vanja Bućan: Birds of Paradise
Vanja Bućan: Rajske ptice
23/05 – 24/06/2022
The photo series Birds of Paradise was created during the pandemic when, faced with confinement to her own four walls, the artist grappled with questions about socially constructed notions of gender, the meaning of motherhood and the domestication of women. Just as the "birds of paradise" belong to a fictitious "paradise", the connotations of domesticity and childcare are only arbitrarily associated with women. In the photographs of women's bodies, removed from their original context and transposed into a fictitious, heavenly nature, the artist reflects on social constructs, prescribed roles and utopian futures.
S fotografijami ženskih teles, izrezanih iz originalnih kontekstov in postavljenih v fiktivno, rajsko naravo, umetnica razmišlja o družbenih konstruktih, predpisanih vlogah in utopičnih prihodnostih.
